B.E. or B.Tech. (Petroleum Engineering) is an undergraduate Petroleum Engineering course. It is a branch of engineering which is concerned with the activities associated to the production of hydrocarbons, which can be either crude oil or natural gas. Subsurface activities are deemed to fall within the upstream sector of the oil and gas industry. These are the activities of finding and producing hydrocarbons. In this course, the students are taught about petroleum geology and geophysics which focus on provision of a static description of the hydrocarbon reservoir rock, while petroleum engineering focuses on estimation of the recoverable volume of this resource using a complete understanding of the physical behavior of oil, water and gas within porous rock at extreme high pressure. Several universities and colleges are providing this course throughout the country. This course opens large number of scopes in petroleum sector after its completion.
